TAYSHAUN MABRY UPDATE
MONDAY, MAY 1 - The Charlotte metro
area hosted the 15&U and 17&U NCAAU Division I and Division II State Championships over the weekend. By now,
most of the names in the 17&U division have a familiar ring to them. On the other hand, the most buzz this weekend
was created by Tayshaun Mabry of the 15&U Wilson Kings who led his team to the state championship game. Mabry is
currently an eighth grader at Edwards middle school in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Playing up an age division throughout
his entire AAU experience, most thought that he was in the class of 2009, until the last year or so.
Mabry is the class of 2010 and has clearly established himself as the number one rising
freshman in North Carolina. He is a dangerous lefty in the post and has incredible passing skills from the perimeter.
We even observed him knock down a few mid-range jumpers throughout the weekend. He makes it look easy at the next age group
and should contribute immediately at the high school varsity level. He will need to grow 3-4 more inches to be a prospect
in the post, but he has already demostrated great intincts from the wing. Hopefully his high school coach will allow
him to experiment and be comfortable with both forward spots.
